METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE
The best methods for removing chewing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.
The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a gooey and sticky glob. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum residue. Next we move the scraper very slowly under the gum and the whole piece should peel right off the concrete.
The above process is only possible with brand new gum.
When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we do not use very high pressure because that will sometimes damage the surface of the concrete!
Our team never uses more pressure than needed to clean commercial concrete. These surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal service.
